Getting Paid: Stripe and PayPal With a U.S. LLC

For founders in countries where Stripe is not directly available, a U.S. LLC with a U.S. bank account is a common path to accepting card payments. PayPal Business works with a U.S. entity as well.

What onboarding checks

  • Your EIN and the company name exactly as the IRS has it.
  • A U.S. bank account in the company’s name for payouts.
  • Identity verification for the owner, usually by passport.
  • A website that shows what you sell, prices, and refund and contact information.

Avoiding account holds

Payment platforms review accounts after onboarding too. Sudden spikes in volume, a high refund rate or a website that does not match the business description are the usual triggers for a hold. Keep your public information accurate and your descriptions consistent.

Remember the tax side

Payouts to your LLC and transfers to you personally are reportable transactions for Form 5472. Keep the payout reports from each platform with your records.
